Day-to-Day Role:

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities of Machine Operator II as required
  • Recognizes product defects and makes adjustments or repairs to equipment to make corrections
  • Performs general preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Initiates troubleshooting on mechanical problems; diagnoses the problem and makes required repairs
  • Uses basic machine tools to make basic parts
  • Assists lower level operators in solving quality and production problems.
  • Performs all duties associated with Start-up Extruder, Former and Trim Press as required.
  • Identifies and reports any work hazards, must eliminate hazards within ability.
  • Maintains running conditions of the extrusion, thermoforming and trimming segments of the machine.
  • Operates extruder, former and trimming segments of the machine; make adjustments, set temperatures, and monitor the entire process.
  • Cleans-up, change over and setup extruder including mixers, loaders, dryers, grinders, gear pump, screen changer, auto stacker, etc.
  • Figures percentages of and setup of resins, regrind, color and additives, and other regrind materials in prescribed time with minimal waste.
  • Completes production reports and all paperwork as assigned
  • Monitors all machine process parameters.
  • Sets-up, adjust, and maintain extruder die.
  • Monitors, adjusts and controls material and color blends.
  • Maintains and cleans hoppers.
  • Operates and maintain gear pump, mixers and screen changer.
  • Adjusts and maintains all forming parameters including heats, vacuum and form air variables.
  • Performs all required PM procedures: change filters, maintain oil and grease levels, check all safety switches and interlocks.
  • Performs housekeeping duties to ensure scrap material does not accumulated around the machine.
  • Backups and assists maintenance as directed
  • Organizes packing requirements. Assists packers as needed.
  • Cross-trains with other positions to cover during vacations, illnesses.
  • Gives breaks to packers as needed.
  • Assists lower level operators in solving quality and production problems
  • Assists in training lower level operators
  • Follows all company standards of conduct, safety rules, GMP's and BRC guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues.
  • Three (3) years of experience operating manufacturing equipment in thermoforming or extrusion
  • Good computer skills (familiarity with computerized maintenance systems would be preferred)
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment
  • Ability to read blue prints
  • Ability to use precision measuring devices
  • Ability to use basic machine hand tools
  • Ability to measure machine performance, scrap, waste, and downtime.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating manuals, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine production reports
  • Ability to apply concepts of percentages, fractions, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Ability to work every other weekend
  • Good attendance is a condition of employment
