Performs a wide variety of duties to assist in maintaining department efficiencies at maximum output levels. Performs necessary line condition checks, minor maintenance and make necessary adjustments to equipment to ensure equipment performance and product quality. Works with department manager in managing all assigned personnel and machine requirements during their respective shift.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Comply with good manufacturing practices (GMP) as required.
  • Comply with Dart Container's policies and procedures.
  • Assist in start-up, shut down, checking and troubleshooting of lines. Set up the operators daily to make sure all lines are properly covered. Conduct quality checks, correct deficiencies, and initiate quality audits as necessary.
  • Check all products in the department to ensure a quality product is being produced. Ensure adequate amounts of material are in the department to maintain production. Perform weight checks to ensure weights are at or below target when necessary.
  • Install or remove for replacement basic machine components such as tips, belts, guards, sensors, etc. Identify and report basic equipment, machine, and tool problems and perform repairs in a timely manner.
  • Review and maintain production schedules to ensure resources are available to meet schedule. Ensure that accurate production information is reported and the appropriate paperwork is completed and turned in.
  • Communicate with oncoming shifts any problems or issues that may be occurring. Work with other departments to maintain or improve communications.
  • Train new employees and ensure that all assigned employees have knowledge of, understanding and adhere to product safety rules and maintain product quality.
  • Ensure that accurate performance and attendance records are maintained. Assist with performance reviews of personnel assigned to their respective department/shift.
  • Participate in small group improvement teams.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed.
  • One (1) year of related experience and/or previous experience as an operator.
  • Technical certificate preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
