The Product Safety Specialist will work with the QA Manager, Quality Team, and operations ensuring the Federalsburg Plant is in compliance with required standards, product safety programs, and third party audits.

Responsibilities will be ensuring compliance with Corporate, Plant, Customer and 3rd party standards, all aspects of auditing, reporting, recording and verifying corrective actions have been completed. This position will also be responsible for maintaining electronic and hardcopies of required documentation used to show compliance.  Will assist in ensuring quality standards for product with regard to product attributes which includes, but not limited to packaging, functionality, and appearance as determined by Corporate Q.A. Department. Will serve as deputy to the QA Manager, as defined in the BRC standard.

Responsible for following practices and processes intended to provide safe products that comply with appropriate laws and regulations, that meet the company quality standards, and serve the needs of our customers.  This includes a commitment to a process of continous improvement.


Day-to-Day Role:

  • Primary responsibility for product safety, quality and legality.  Includes third party audit compliance.
  • Responsible for assisting in internal audits in various departments.
  • Responsible for reporting compliance with product safety, quality, and legality standards and coordinating follow up with the Operations Managers and Production Managers.
  • Responsible for drafting and maintaining documentation including GMP audits, SOPs, training, and policies.  Develops and modifies product safety programs as necessary to ensure the highest standards of quality are attained.
  • Responsible for generating and distributing reports.
  • Responsible for supporting specialized product safety procedures in conjunction with quality and plant management for those customers who require specific quality standards.
  • Responsible for training/retraining product safety awareness to plant employees including Inspector/Packers,

    Operators/Mechanics, Quality Control Inspectors, and Maintenance.

  • Assist with training Quality Control Inspectors on quality procedures and SPC as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of BRC requirements to ensure individual departments comply with the standard.
  • Assist department QA Manager and Group lead to Work with inspectors to ensure a safe work environment. Providing guidance to perform job duties in a safe manner and to correctly identify and report any unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate written communication precisely and effectively with extreme accuracy.
  • Completing and maintaining audit reports
  • Maintaining corrective action list and verifying completion of items
  • Assist in completion of Hazard and Risk Analysis exercises
  • Monitor, promote and demonstrate clean work space adherence.
  • Must work in a professional manner and promote team work. 
  • Sets priorities effectively and demonstrates good organizational skills.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • HS diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of prior Quality Control inspection experience. 
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office with skills to include:
    • Microsoft Word – ability to open, close, create, edit and save documents
    • Microsoft Excel – ability to create basic spreadsheets, open, close, edit, save, and use formulas in


    • Microsoft PowerPoint – ability to create, open, edit, save and deliver presentations
  • Ability to work with individuals or groups and to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills to plan and prioritize work load.
  • Must possess good mathematical skills, strong administrative skills including documentation controls and in depth analytics.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure on-going communication about safety and quality issues.
  • Previous involvement with BRC, ISO, or other compliance audits
  • 5% travel for training and/or assisting with audits.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Some college, certifications, or advanced training
  • Knowledge of QA computer programs
