Manages directly or through supervisors, a fleet of 30 or more drivers, and all facets of local fleet and garage operations, which may span multiple shifts.  Manage policies and procedures set by the corporate office and regulatory requirements with a focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for safety, quality, efficiency, and service. 

 

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Manage and promote practices and processes intended to provide safe products that comply with appropriate laws and regulations, meet the company quality standards 
  • Take ownership and demonstrate the leadership necessary to achieve goals specific to Safety, Quality, Service, Efficiency, and Employee Development 
  • Lead by example to promote and encourage employees to strongly commit to safety 
  • Establish an environment that encourages employee engagement, participation, and teamwork within and between all departments 
  • Provide continuous leadership and support to management staff, drivers, and mechanics to meet or exceed KPIs.
  • Proactively seek and identify problems that need to be resolved and quantify the anticipated benefits of problem resolution.
  • Facilitate problem-solving by leveraging/modeling continuous improvement methodologies to eliminate root causes.
  • Supervise, train, and promote practices and processes intended to safely transport products and comply with appropriate laws and regulations, while meeting the company’s quality and safety standards to serve the needs of our customers.
  • Provide classroom instruction and on-road training, and ensure driver, mechanic, and fleet performance to regulatory compliance, policies, procedures, and safety culture.
  • Administer, monitor, and/or distribute training material to ensure staff is meeting or exceeding training and safety standards.
  • Monitor, review and maintain Hours of Service regulations
  • Facilitate safety meetings per Corporate guidelines
  • Understand, support, and follow management expectations in alignment with company values.
  • Conduct or participate in the interview process with new candidates.
  • Take an active role in the onboarding of new hires, including ensuring that training is complete to a satisfactory level.
  • Supervise and direct the work of others including assignments of breaks, lunches, and other relief periods.
  • Make decisions and recommendations regarding, hiring, terminations, overtime, and pay adjustments, as applicable.
  • Responsible for employee development, discipline, performance feedback and appraisals, administration of policies, time off approvals, etc.

 

Core Skills & Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years supervisory experience with strong leadership and management skills
  • One (1) year previous Commercial Motor Vehicle driving experience
  • Requires one of the following:
    • High School diploma with seven (7) years of automotive mechanic related experience, OR
    • Associate degree with an emphasis in Vehicle Maintenance, Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or related field of study and five (5) years related automotive mechanic industry experience
  • 21 years of age minimum
  • Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver License) and favorable driving record upon hiring and ability to maintain throughout duration of employment
  • Meet all requirements to be Power Industrial Truck Operations (PITO) certified
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment and scan tools
  • Display strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable. 
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes 
  • Ability to utilize and train employees on technology, processes, and procedures
  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint 
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to identify issues, compare data, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and ongoing communications about safety and quality issues.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Three (3) years previous Commercial Motor Vehicle driving experience
  • Previous experience managing supervisors
