Materials Supervisor

Supervises inventory control, materials requirements planning, purchasing and production scheduling with a focus on and meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for safety, quality, production, efficiency, and service.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Supervise and promote practices and processes intended to provide safe products that comply with appropriate laws and regulations, meet the company quality standards, and serve the needs of our customers. 
  • Take ownership and demonstrate leadership necessary to achieve goals specific to Safety, Quality, Service, Efficiency and Employee Development.
  • Lead by example to promote and encourage employees to strongly commit to safety and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)  
  • Establish an environment that encourages employee engagement, participation and teamwork within and between all departments 
  • Direct a team to manage and control all inventory and materials management activities in cooperation with operations
  • Support Supply Chain logistics and drive cost reduction opportunities
  • Lead process improvement opportunities using ACE and Lean Strategies to ensure accurate and prompt inventory accounting and financial reporting
  • Implement Root-Cause Corrective Actions as required to ensure the highest quality standards are maintained
  • Interface with corporate planners, Production Manager and Shift Supervisor regarding schedule adherence, schedule changes and any production, machinery or labor issues.
  • Monitor, forecast, plan and schedule multiple production lines
  • Assist in the development and implementation of short- and long-range plans relating to production planning/scheduling activities.
  • Review and monitor reports
  • Ensure accurate and timely raw material inventories
  • Manage aged inventory to ensure inventory reduction and minimize loss
  • Utilize computer applications to maintain data and run reports
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), anticipating and correcting trends which would compromise achievement of targets. 
  • Audit the floor as required by Leader Standard Work, monitor productivity metrics, verify adherence to procedures/ standard work and correct deficiencies as necessary.
  • Understand, support and follow management expectations in alignment with company values.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (2) year of lead (or equivalent) experience required with demonstrated strong leadership and management skills.
  • Three (3) years of production planning, materials requirements planning, inventory control, and purchasing experience.
  • Understanding of production control procedures to schedule, order, record, check and control inventories.
  • Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable 
  • Ability to utilize and train employees on technology, processes and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes
  • Strong written communication skills demonstrating the ability to prepare outlines, reports, letters, and any other supplemental materials in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively manage and execute multiple tasks, projects and priorities
  • Experience using technology systems for Warehouse Management (WMS), Supply Chain Management (SCM), purchasing, scheduling and inventory control
  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Supply Chain or similar field
  • Experience using SAP Supply Chain Management applications
  • Experience in a manufacturing or high-volume warehouse environment
  • Paper converting, chemical/plastics processing and packaging industrial experience
