Associate Chemical Engineer

What You'll Do

• Participate in and complete projects or programs related to new plant start up and capacity expansion.  Assist with facilities layouts, equipment layouts, and pipe runs.
• Develop knowledge of molded fiber forming process including various forming equipment and stock preparation (hyrdopulping, consistency management, deflaking, refining, wet end chemistry)
• Analyze and optimize various pulp types including PCF, wood, and non-wood
• Participate in new product development, qualification, and optimization (dinnerware, hinge trays, etc.)
• Learn and use physical test equipment for pulp and handsheets (CSF, fiber analyzer, handsheet maker, tensile, tester, etc.). Use data obtained for analysis, recommendations, and project decision making.
• Calculate mass and energy balances to support equipment selection and product formulation.  Evaluate wet end chemicals (sizing, retention aids, biocides, etc.) considering cost and performance.  Determine appropriate dosing.
• Collaborate with other engineers as well as production and business team members to work on new product development and capacity addition
• Assist technicians with assembly and disassembly of process equipment and components in order to diagnose issues
• Become proficient with operating TPM molded fiber machines to facilitate troubleshooting, analysis, evaluation, implementation, and documentation of engineering solutions

What You'll Bring

• Requires one of the following: 
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study; ChE or Paper Science/Engineering preferred
  • Associate’s degree and six (6) years of related engineering experience; paper industry experience preferred
• Familiarity with, or ability to learn various statistical and quality methodologies including but not limited to Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Root Cause Analysis
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products 
• Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
• Ability to use MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams) and enterprise software (SAP)
• Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information 
• Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science/Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred
• Ability to travel up to 40% of the time domestically and internationally
