What You'll Do
- Participate in and complete projects or programs related to new plant start up and capacity expansion. Assist with facilities layouts, equipment layouts, and pipe runs.
- Develop knowledge of molded fiber forming process including various forming equipment and stock preparation (hyrdopulping, consistency management, deflaking, refining, wet end chemistry)
- Analyze and optimize various pulp types including PCF, wood, and non-wood
- Participate in new product development, qualification, and optimization (dinnerware, hinge trays, etc.)
- Learn and use physical test equipment for pulp and handsheets (CSF, fiber analyzer, handsheet maker, tensile, tester, etc.). Use data obtained for analysis, recommendations, and project decision making.
- Calculate mass and energy balances to support equipment selection and product formulation. Evaluate wet end chemicals (sizing, retention aids, biocides, etc.) considering cost and performance. Determine appropriate dosing.
- Collaborate with other engineers as well as production and business team members to work on new product development and capacity addition
- Assist technicians with assembly and disassembly of process equipment and components in order to diagnose issues
- Become proficient with operating TPM molded fiber machines to facilitate troubleshooting, analysis, evaluation, implementation, and documentation of engineering solutions
What You'll Bring
- Requires one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study; ChE or Paper Science/Engineering preferred
- Associate’s degree and six (6) years of related engineering experience; paper industry experience preferred
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn various statistical and quality methodologies including but not limited to Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Root Cause Analysis
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
- Ability to use MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams) and enterprise software (SAP)
- Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
- Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science/Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time domestically and internationally
