Dart Container is looking for an Analytical Chemist to join our team!
As the Analytical Chemist you will have the opportunity to research new technologies in polymerization and new materials as well as develop experiments to be executed in our pilot plants

Day-to-Day Role:
Chemist
- Develop and perform analyses, tests, and new or updated formulas that require an understanding of chemistry, product lines, materials, and production processes
- Analyze, evaluate, and select materials for tests and production batches
- Develop, adjust, and scale product formulas
- Recommend and develop new laboratory methods for sample analysis, testing, quality standards, procedures, and techniques
- Perform experiments to improve existing materials
- Participate in and complete broad research and development projects of moderate size, scope, and duration
- Conduct research into composition, structure, properties and relationships of printing inks, coatings, and materials used in product formulation
Senior Chemist
- Lead, manage, and facilitate multiple, long-term, complex research and development projects and new product development from concept to production
- Research, develop, plan, and perform analyses, tests, experiments, and new or updated formulas that require an understanding of chemistry, rheometry, product lines, materials, and production processes
- Assist management in developing long-range materials research and development plans and goals
- Conduct in-depth and extensive research and keep abreast of pertinent patents, technical articles, competitor information, and industry trends and knowledge
- Engage customers to understand the business need for experimental work
- Recommend and develop new laboratory methods for sample analysis, testing, quality standards, procedures, and techniques
Both Level Chemist
- Develop reports and documents detailing test, project, and overall results
- Respond to complex questions and concerns from plants, lab technicians, quality control, customers and other internal and external parties regarding development and related programs and services
- Troubleshoot, analyze, evaluate, implement, and document chemical formulas and changes
- Communicate both verbally and in writing results, opinions, conclusions, and recommendations
- Collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information and draft reports, and improve processes and products
- Recommend and implement continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved
- Mentor chemical or lab technicians and entry level chemists

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:
Chemist
- Requires one of the following:
- Doctorate degree with an emphasis in chemistry or related field of study, OR
- Master’s degree with an emphasis in chemistry or related field of study and one (1) year of related experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in chemistry or related field of study and three (3) years of related experience
- Ability to safely compound with solvents, polymers, pigments and chemical additives and assess both their performance and processing requirements in formulation
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with common laboratory equipment
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with quality control (QC) equipment and tests
- Ability to establish required quality control procedures for developed formulations
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with processing equipment
- Ability to formulate processing procedures that are scalable to production equipment
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Understand the hazards of the chemicals, processes, and equipment used in a lab and production environment
- Knowledge and understanding of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
- Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize moderately complex projects, deadlines, and tasks in both team and independent environments
- Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information and clearly explain options and solutions to internal and external customers
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Requires a valid driver’s license and favorable motor vehicle report upon hire
- Exposure to extreme heat, loud noise, dirt, dust, odors, and fumes is probable
- May direct the work of others
Senior Chemist
- Requires one of the following:
- Doctorate degree with an emphasis in chemistry or related field of study and one (1) year of related experience, OR
- Master’s degree with an emphasis in chemistry or related field of study and two (2) years of related experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in chemistry or related field of study and five (5) years of related experience
- Two (2) years of experience in polymer research, polymerization processes, rheometry, and developing product formulations
- Ability to safely compound with solvents, polymers, pigments and chemical additives and assess both their performance and processing requirements in formulation
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with quality control (QC) equipment and tests
- Ability to establish required quality control procedures for developed formulations
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with processing equipment
- Ability to formulate processing procedures that are scalable to production equipment
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
