Cloud Infrastructure Architect

You'll work a hybrid schedule of 3 days on site at our corporate office in Mason, Michigan, and up to 2 days remote.

 

The Cloud Infrastructure Architect is responsible for developing strategy and providing direction and vision in the design development and optimization of cloud based infrastructure.  This includes providing tactical solutions that will ensure the availability of applications, successful implementations, and development of processes and procedures that pertain to the delivery of the cloud infrastructure environment and its integration and interaction with on premises infrastructure. The Cloud Infrastructure Architect  ensures the physical security, integrity, and safety of the cloud network, compute, storage and backup media. In addition, this role will often participate in planning meetings for projects in relation to all cloud infrastructure.

 

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Strategize, plan, design, implement, and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure components or on premises components that interface with or are reliant on cloud infrastructure
  • Produce written proposals which describe solutions to business problems, including the best solution for Dart (on premises or in the cloud), equipment recommended, the cost of the equipment, the resources and time required to successfully (and fully) implement the solution including benefits and long-term investment values
  • Lead and coordinate varying research/implementation projects utilizing proper documentation, tools, and task management skills

  • Lead teams of other infrastructure engineers and application owners in develeoping detailed designs and quality-control mechanisms during implementation

  • Collaborate with management and other teams in order to plan and build long term effectiveness of the cloud infrastructure

  • Work with technical management to design cloud infrastructure solutions that effectively meet business needs, required service levels, and other technology parameters

  • Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.  Seek opportunities within the cloud space to leverage it for disaster recovery purposes

  • Build, maintain and compare cost models and risk models for new solutions to determine if the best home for them is in the cloud or on premises

  • Build, maintain and assist with enforcement of solution intake and evaluation process for items that will reside in the cloud space

  • Stay current on new technology within our cloud space and make recommendations regarding changes to current standards and solutions as appropriate

  • Assist with the oversight and long-term management of cloud capacity management and utilization 

  • Assist with the oversight and long-term management of cloud spend ensuring that we are staying within budget and utilizing the proper set of cloud SKUs to meet the needs of the business at the most effective cost point

  • Oversee the overall security of cloud solutions by ensuring compliance with Dart’s IT security standards and the use of the right tools to maintain compliance

  • Establish governing principals for cloud infrastructure design and deployment

  • Develop high level project plans and timelines for the deployment of cloud infrastructure designs, enhancements, and upgrades
  • Maintain accurate records of projects, tasks, and assets by utilizing the appropriate IT software
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information; adhere to company security policies
  • Adhere to company software and hardware licensing policies and practices
  • Serve as a mentor to the cloud engineering staff and infrastructure engineering staff
  • Lead technical teams on strategic and tactical technical discussions regarding cloud and on-premises infrastructure

 

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in computer science, information systems, or a related field of study and five (5) years of experience managing cloud-based infrastructure in Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS), OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience managing cloud-based infrastructure in Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Four (4) years of experience managing on premise infrastructure in at least two of the following spaces:  networking, virtual or physical server compute, storage, backup, and recovery
  • Three (3) years of IT architecting and support experience in a large-scale IT environment
  • Azure PowerShell and Azure CLI proficiency
  • Experience with maintaining high availability and/or disaster recovery methodologies within cloud based or on-premises infrastructure
  • Ability to plan, design, test, implement and troubleshoot network, infrastructure, and cloud systems
  • Ability to work within a team that is geographically disbursed to focus on inclusion of all team members
  • Ability to leverage collaborative tools to keep open lines of communications with teammates and other business contacts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with individuals, groups, or work teams to explain difficult technical issues and the ability to listen effectively
  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally  
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport
  • Requires a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire
  • Additional work hours including weekends, holidays, and on-call as required
