Electrical Assembly Technician II / III

This position will safely assemble, troubleshoot and wire electrical controls for production equipment.
Day-to-Day Role:
Electrical Assembly Technician II:

  • Assemble and wire advanced electrical controls for production equipment
  • Identify and evaluate all electrical and electronic components
  • Proficiently read and interpret electrical control and machine assembly drawings, bills of material, schematics, and other reference materials
  • Proficiently operate power and hand tools to prepare material for assembly. These tools will include; but not limited to: wire cutter, wire crimper, pliers, screwdrivers, soldering iron, drill motor, cut off saw, grinder, automatic crimping machine, pallet jack, hand carts and overhead crane
  • Operate and test production and experimental control systems
  • Support production plants in troubleshooting electrical problems on production machines using phone, email, or in person
  • Lead teams as needed in electrical assembly and at production plants
  • Review electrical assembly procedures and make recommendations for improving quality and efficiency
  • Check own work and make needed corrections
  • Conduct advanced level bench tests on electrical controls
  • Diagnose and repair advanced level electrical assemblies/machine control panels before and after installed on completed machine, using digital multi-meters and oscilloscopes
  • Complete paperwork as assigned
  • Utilize computer to order parts and supplies, find, order and view prints, check product structure, research engineering changes, look up work orders/backorders, and document defective materials
  • Work to help the department meet published goals with regard to safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Design and layout intermediate control circuits
  • Assist with training of technicians as required
  • Promote good employee relations and high morale
  • Demonstrate teamwork and respect by working constructively with co-workers to achieve the best results possible
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Additionally, Electrical Assembly Technician III:

  • Proficiently assemble and wire advanced electrical controls for prototype and production equipment
  • Proficiently identify and evaluate all electrical and electronic components
  • Support production plants in troubleshooting electrical problems on production and prototype machines using phone, email, in person, and connecting remotely to machines via internet and PLC software
  • Design and layout advanced control circuits

Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:
Electrical Assembly Technician II

  • Requires one of the following:
    • College level courses with an emphasis in electrical/electronics, OR
    • Three (3) years’ of related work experience in electrical/electronics
  • Understand Ohm’s law, resister color code, and intermediate AC and DC circuit

Electrical Assembly Technician III

  • Requires one of the following:
    • College level courses with an emphasis in electrical/electronics, and three (3) years’ of experience, OR
    • Six (6) years of related work experience in electrical/electronics with proven demonstration of proficiency in Dart processes and procedures
  • Understand Ohm’s law, resister color code, and advanced AC and DC circuit

Both Level II & III:

  • Electrical/electronic aptitude
  • Component level theory and digital circuits, data acquisition, computer assisted electrical design, and microprocessor-based circuits (PLC)
  • Communicate with production control, manufacturing engineering and production facilities to expedite defective materials, returning parts to the crib, engineering changes, and pulling shortages
  • Theory of logic gates, circuit board components, relay and solid state digital circuits and power supplies through education and hands on experience
  • Understand electronic and electrical principles, including an advanced knowledge of electrical wiring codes
  • Utilize technical manuals, schematics, prints, wiring lists, and other written materials to effectively complete assigned projects/tasks
  • Calculate time and materials needed using math skills to include simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and decimals, and solve electronic equations using advanced mathematics  
  • Utilize laptop computer and download programs to PLC’s without written instructions.  Find and manipulate rungs in ladder logic and troubleshoot error codes with electrical engineering approval
  • Assist electrical engineering personnel in the development of new electrical controls and test units
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports and documents in MS Word and Excel
  • Complete complex projects and assignments without supervision

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
•    Course work in electronics
•    Electrical assembly and troubleshooting experience
•    High School Diploma or equivalent
