Summary

The Gage Design Engineer will carry out gage design assignments of a routine to moderately complex nature with latitude in the use of initiative and judgment, preparing drawings and 3D models using verbal or written instructions from on-going gage design discussions or from adaptations of existing gage designs. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand gage requirements and meet necessary timelines.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the conceptualization, design, fabrication, testing, and implementation of gaging.
  • Design and generate CAD Models and Drawings of gages and fixtures using NX and Teamcenter.
  • Review, check, and revise gage concepts for manufacturability, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Collaborate with Development and Quality personnel to develop and revise gage designs.
  • Request quotes and place purchase requisitions for new and existing gage designs.
  • Monitor and track the manufacturing of open gage orders to ensure timeliness while reviewing the fabrication and assembly of new and reworked gage designs from vendors evaluating precision and accuracy of the equipment.
  • Define inspection and calibration specifications for new and existing gages.
  • Coordinate calibration and inspection activities of gages at multiple Dart facilities across North America.
  • Manage gage inventories at various Dart plants using GageTrak software.
  • Manage multiple sequential or concurrent projects simultaneously according to priority to obtain the greatest value versus cost and time while ensuring on-time completion.
  • Manage, prioritize, and complete projects or programs of moderate size, scope, and duration.
  • Coordinate project work with other engineers, technicians, designers and/or or drafters
  • Collaborate with suppliers, production personnel, and other departments to gather information to help improve equipment, processes, and products.
  • Assist in the development of procedures and inspection criteria.
  • Mentor lower-level engineers.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Utilize statistical and quality methodologies to troubleshoot, analyze, identify, evaluate, propose, implement, and document processes, materials, products, and engineering solutions with regards to Quality.
  • Assist with the creation test parameters and participate in the testing and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Provide training in various quality methodologies and procedures relative to gaging and Quality testing.
  • Identify broad conceptual ideas and develop them into useful solutions.
  • Establish continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved to processes you are exposed to.

 

Core Skills and Qualifications:

Associate level candidate must posses all the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study, OR
    • Associate’s degree and six (6) years of related engineering experience
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Ability to learn and understand raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks in both team and independent environments
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a driver’s license 
  • Requires a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire 

 

Mid-level candidate must possess all the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and three (3) years of related engineering experience OR
    • Associate’s degree and nine (9) years of related engineering experience
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
  • Ability to effectively manage and execute multiple tasks, projects and priorities.

 

Senior level candidate must possess all the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and six (6) years of related engineering experience, OR
    • Associate’s degree and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and manage large, complex projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information

 

In addition, all levels require:

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products.
  • The ability to coordinate and perform R&R studies and understand the results using Xbar and R Charts as well as other analysis tools.
  • Having a firm understanding of Statistical Process Control standardology.

 

All  levels Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products.
  • Experience with Gage calibration and verification. 
  • Familiarity with Gage design and product measurement.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to travel up to 25-30% at times
