Machining Supervisor

Supervise the activities of the Machinery & Tooling Manufacturing shop floor (machining and/or fabrication) by leading the development and performance of personnel while ensuring customer and inventory demands are met. Will have an understanding of equipment, tooling and processes needed to execute the functions of these areas.
Day-to-Day Role:

  • Promote the Safety Culture and ensure employees understand safe work practices and the requirements of environmental regulations
  • Supervise machinists and other shift personnel as required
  • Supervise, plan, schedule, set objectives and meet production standards within the framework of policy guidelines
  • Evaluate labor, make recommendations for projected labor needed to meet plant production goals, submit recommendation for needed personnel to Manufacturing Operations Manager, interview and select qualified personnel while adhering to approved structure
  • Adhere to approved plant and company lines of authority and communication, keeping Manufacturing Operations Manager informed as to performance, problems, and trends within the department
  • Delegate responsibility and authority to subordinates as necessary for the effective operation of department.  Retain overall responsibility and accountability for results, as well as supply all necessary direction regarding work objectives
  • Communicate with all Machinery & Tooling Manufacturing departments, Engineering, and plant personnel pursuant to production, quality, and service goals. Work with other departments as necessary to produce quality, cost-conscience, timely solutions for customers
  • Administer and execute training of machinists and all other support personnel to include (but not limited to) machinery, support equipment, work station inspection devices, employee-responsible machine maintenance, labor entry systems and the schedule
  • Establish and maintain training systems and programs to develop technical and managerial skills of subordinates
  • Review performance, advancement potential, and merit increases of department personnel;  make recommendations within the department to ensure each individual receives the experience, exposure, and personal development necessary to reach their career objectives, whenever possible
  • Read complex drawings, blueprints, 3D models, specifications, bills of material, and various technical materials needed to ensure the departments compliance with company, plant, and production goals
  • Adhere to schedules and run sequence. Identify the need for additional labor hours and resources and for leading efforts weekly in order to meet throughput commitments
  • Fair and equal treatment of all candidates or employees with regard to interviews, selections, hires, transfers, promotions, demotions, lay-offs, terminations and training
  • Promote good employee relations and high morale
  • Demonstrate teamwork and respect by working constructively with co-workers to achieve the best results possible
  • Supervise and direct the work of others
  • Responsible for employee development, discipline, performance appraisals, and administration of policies
  • Make overtime, hiring, firing, and pay adjustment recommendations

Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a manufacturing or business related field, and 2 years’ of experience working in a manufacturing environment, OR,
    • Associates degree in a manufacturing or business related field, and four (4) years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment, OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years’ of work experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Two (2) years’ of demonstrated experience in a leadership role or supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets
  • Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with team members 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in hi-tech machining
