We have the ability to hire either a Mid or Senior level Packaging Project Engineer

 

Dart has a need for an experienced Packaging Project Engineer to join its Product Development team.  The Packaging Project Engineer develops and maintains packaging specifications in support of new products and internal service requests.  In addition, this role leads cross-functional teams to meet the quality, cost, and timing deliverables of product development projects using Dart’s Stage-Gate process.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Manage, prioritize and complete projects or programs of moderate size, scope, and duration
  • Coordinate project work with other engineers, technicians, designers and/or or drafters
  • Ensure proper package selection and manufacturing feasibility
  • Establish packaging components specifications for new products and change requests
  • Utilize ArtiosCAD to develop 2D and 3D structural packaging designs
  • Maintain packaging database to ensure life-cycle management for Bills of Materials (BOM) and component specifications
  • Lead a cross-functional team through the development of new products
    • Work with management to build a project team to commercialize a selected new product opportunity
    • Lead the product team to assemble a project plan and seek approval to start the execution phase of the project
    • Lead the team through Dart’s development process to commercialize the new products
    • Report progress and request approval to proceed to the next phase of the development process
  • Meet identified quality, cost, and timing requirements.  Meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Research and implement cost savings opportunities for the Company and external customer
  • Research, troubleshoot, analyze, identify, evaluate, propose, implement, and document packaging solutions and assist in the specification and implementation of packaging equipment
  • Collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information and draft reports, and improve equipment, processes, and products
  • Create test parameters and participate in the testing and implementation of engineering solutions
  • Establish continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved
  • Mentor lower level engineers

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal Packaging Engineer must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and three (3) years of packaging engineering experience
    • Associate’s degree and nine (9) years of packaging engineering experience
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Understand packaging development cycles and key substrates such as films, bags, corrugated, paperboard, and pallets
  • Experience commercializing new products by leading cross-functional teams through a development process
  • Experience using CAD design software to develop structural packaging designs
  • Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning software
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments
  • Knowledge and experience with Project Management best practices
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
  • Ability to travel up to 40% domestic and international
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience using ArtiosCAD structural design software for packaging design
  • Knowledge and experience in using PMI PMBOK framework and best practices
  • SAP experience

The ideal Senior Packaging Engineer must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and six (6) years of related engineering experience
    • Associate’s degree and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Advanced knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
