Day-to-Day Role:

  • Assign technicians to projects
  • Coordinate the timely completion and accuracy of projects
  • Guide technicians to utilize required processes, systems, and databases
  • Act as a subject matter expert regarding production equipment and process
  • Oversee set-up, testing, and troubleshooting of production equipment
  • Adhere to established tolerances and adjust machinery as required
  • Read and interpret basic drawings, schematics, and bills of material
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical equipment and instruments including non-routine issues
  • Operate power and manual hand tools
  • Monitor instruments and equipment and collect operating data including calibration, inspection, testing, and repair activities to assist in making adjustments to instruments and equipment
  • Devise, fabricate, assemble, and disassemble new or modified mechanical components and machinery
  • Provides technical support to engineers to achieve improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes
  • Participate with engineers in process failure discussions and investigations
  • Participate with engineers in troubleshooting, analysis, evaluation, implementation, and documentation of technical solutions
  • Participate with engineers on projects or programs of minimal size, scope, and duration
  • Collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information and draft reports, and improve equipment, processes, and products
  • Recommend continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved
  • Mentor other technicians


Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Associate degree with an emphasis in a mechanical or manufacturing process program and eight (8) years of manufacturing equipment and processes, mechanical or machine maintenance and installation experience, OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent and ten (10) years of manufacturing equipment and processes, mechanical or machine maintenance and installation experience
  • Extrusion SME experience
  • Demonstrated mastery in production equipment and processes.
  • Experience mentoring and reviewing technicians work.
  • Prior experience troubleshooting and repairing production tooling and equipment and testing equipment.
  • Prior experience using various statistical and quality methodologies including but not limited to Statistical Process Control (SPC), Statistical Quality Control (SQC), 5S, 8D, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis, Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R), and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Proficiency in using powered and manual hand tools such as soldering iron, multimeter, wrench, hammer, screwdriver, etc.
  • Understand decimals and fractions!
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints or drawings including, but not limited to manuals, catalogues, schematics, or prints.
  • Understand production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of products.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information.
