Project Engineer

Day-to-Day Role

  • Coordinate project work with other engineers, technicians, designers and/or or drafters
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, identify, evaluate, propose, implement, and document industrial engineering solutions aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing cost, and optimizing space, materials, equipment, and people
  • Plan new facilities or changes to existing facilities including equipment layout, ergonomics, job tasks, work methods, and production metrics
  • Use CAD to draw plans of floor space to scale
  • Coordinate the acquisition of internal and external equipment for new or existing production lines
  • Collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information, conduct studies, analyze resources and costs, and complete reports, analysis and cost estimates
  • Identify broad conceptual ideas and develop them into useful solutions
  • Create test parameters and participate in the testing and implementation of engineering solutions
  • Establish continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved
  • Mentor lower-level engineers

 

Core Skills
The ideal mid level candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and three (3) years of related engineering experience, OR
    • Associate’s degree and nine (9) years of related engineering experience
  • Experience analyzing production equipment, conceiving, and implementing equipment layouts, and investigating, evaluating, and solving safety and ergonomic issues to decrease workplace injuries
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments

 

The ideal senior level candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and six (6) years of related engineering experience, OR
    • Associate’s degree and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience
  • Successfully managed and completed a large, complex engineering project
  • Knowledge of and experience using project management methodologies and software
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and manage large, complex projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments
  • Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Advanced knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products

 

In addition, both levels require:

  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

 

Preferred Core Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
