Tax Technology Analyst - Hybrid

The Tax Technology Analyst provides tax automation services; you will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment supporting tax operations, including system implementations, delivering innovative technology solutions, and driving efficiencies to create a cost-effective tax function. 


The primary focus of this role is on systems/technology. However, the role also has a strong focus on accounting, indirect taxes, and data analytics. As such, the role will suit candidates from an IT background or from an accounting background.


The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to partner effectively across the finance organization and business areas.


Day-to-Day Role:

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate key tax reports for the Company and related entities using enterprise reporting packages and by performing reconciliations
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate tax fixed asset and depreciation records for the Company and related entities using fixed asset software for all tax related books (e.g., tax, AMT, ACE, state) 
  • Prepare various reports following established processes and procedures to support the tax function (e.g., trial balance and Elimination Reporting)
  • Monitor indirect tax rate changes, ensure new rates are properly loaded and tested in appropriate systems
  • Maintain and Perform System Administration for various tax systems (including, but not limited to, user administration, data backups, software upgrades, system structure and consistency, etc.)
  • Monitor, maintain, improve, and troubleshoot existing systems used by Tax (including, but not limited to, issue tracking and resolution, master use tax exclusions, SAP variants/dimensions, general ledger account/cost center/jurisdiction flagging for use tax purposes, and source data reference documentation
  • Work with outside consultants and team members to successfully design, test and implement system interfaces, enhancements, reports, etc., as needed 
  • Assist with the development and implementation of technology process improvement projects (e.g., business process change and business process modeling documentation), as needed 
  • Support the analytic reporting testing, training, report development and preparing Tax Department employees for the new reporting systems and processes
  • Develop and facilitate end-user training to maximize the value of technology, improve processes, and enhance tax user productivity and skillsets
  • Provide tax audit function data compilation services to support audit responses and requests for information 
  • Review reporting produced by others in Tax Technology
  • Export, import, search, cleanse and validate data to recognize patterns, understand conclusions and make recommendations for improving use of various tax systems and enhancing tax reporting
  • Serve as computer support for Tax users


Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting, information technology or data management/data analytics and five (5) years of experience in corporate accounting,a tax department, or information technology 
    • High school diploma or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience in corporate accounting, a tax department or information technology
  • Three (3) years ERP system (e.g., SAP, BI and tax depreciation software) experience 
  • Three (3) years of business systems environment/systems administration and data analytics/automation experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to persuade and influence decision making of individuals, groups, or work teams, and to explain difficult issues
  • Must possess strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively manage and execute multiple tasks, projects, and priorities 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be persistent to overcome obstacles to achieve results
  • Ability to identify issues, compare data, investigate, and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to utilize business sense and creativity to develop new ideas and solutions
  • Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Up to 5% domestic travel 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years corporate Fixed Asset Accounting experience
  • Three (3) years sales and use tax experience
  • Three (3) years of configuration/maintenance experience with SharePoint systems
  • Alteryx, PowerBI, MS Access, PowerApps, Azure data technologies (or combination, thereof) and general database experience
