It’s an exciting time at Dart. We’re putting innovation and sustainability at the center of everything we do, and we’re actioning significant and lasting changes for our company and industry.

In this new role, as VP – Sustainability, working with others in our organization you’ll build and drive sustainability goals and strategies across numerous business teams/functions: Product Line Management, Product Development, Marketing, Sales, Government Affairs, Regulatory Compliance and Energy & Waste Management.  From day one, you’ll be able to trace a straight line from your work to the company’s strategic objective to provide thoughtfully designed, planet-friendly packaging that gives people the freedom to safely enjoy the food & drinks they love without compromising their values.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with commercial business teams to grow our market share of sustainable products made from paper, molded fiber, recycled content and other materials
  • Work across functions to analyze sustainable attributes, product features and benefits and cost factors of substrates/materials and build sustainability strategy into product roadmaps and our new product development process
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety to determine how best to baseline, track and reduce our own air and water-borne emissions and solid waste generation
  • Work with local, state and federal governments, environmentally oriented NGOs, members of the recycling and composting communities, trade associations and others in our industry to establish and sustain infrastructures that facilitate the cost-effective collection, separation and later recycling and/or composting of the products we make
  • Create and periodically update a sustainability playbook to be shared internally and externally that details Dart’s environmental commitments and progress
  • Strengthen our marketing and messaging about the sustainability of our product offerings
  • Bring more rigor to the tracking of continuous improvement efforts in our plants and offices, so we know exactly what we’re doing to reduce our environmental impact
  • Build strong connections with our government affairs team to understand legislation banning our products or requiring that certain recycling and/or composting rates be met or recycled content percentages achieved.  Testify at hearings, prepare position statements and perform government outreach
  • Serve as an important face for the company with customers, suppliers, trade associations, the media and members of the general public

We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can thoughtfully and confidently formalize our sustainability approach and function. We need someone who can take complex issues and explain them in uncomplicated terms to persuasively and coherently implement programs and processes that align teams behind the pursuit of sustainability. Are you ready to leave your mark on Dart Container and the larger food & beverage industry? We’d love to hear from you!

Where you’ll do it:
