The Workers Compensation Specialist analyzes and proactively facilitates best practice claim management for multi-state workers compensation claims.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Act as a liaison between all parties in workers compensation claims to ensure quality claims management including providing updates and recommendations
  • Perform timely review on submitted claims in compliance with department procedures
  • Track individual progress and action plans for claims
  • Notify management of all issue claims or denials and elevate obstacles with claims to management for proper resolution
  • Provide reserve and settlement authority according to department procedures
  • Write reports and recommendations on claims
  • Act as the first level of appeal for Dart personnel regarding claim decisions
  • Identify claim trends, advise management of trends, and provide ideas to reduce costly trends
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with Dart Management, Dart Human Resources departments, Dart Safety departments and vendors (such as defense law firms and managed care firms)

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Requires one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of workers compensation experience, OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of workers compensation experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary in order to persuade and influence decision making of individuals, groups, or work teams, and to explain difficult issues
  • Ability to effectively present to an audience
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to identify issues, compare data, investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish action plans, regularly monitor and track progress, and communicate with partners
  • Ability to collaborate with team members
  • Ability to maintain composure when faced with stressful situations
  • Up to 20% domestic travel
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license
