The Production Supervisor supervises production employees by planning and assigning work, adjusting schedules to meet production requirements.  Responsible for analyzing and resolving work problems, inspecting materials to verify conformance to standards.  Key focus of the productions supervisor is to create and maintain a safe working environment and culture that continuously improves Safety, Quality and Productivity.  Ensures compliance with GMP, safety, OHSA, WSIB and regulatory standards. Supports management’s commitment to food safety and quality and compliance to appropriate laws, regulations and standards.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Supervises the quality and quantity of product being produced by employees within their departments.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates time requirements for completion of job assignments. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production requirements.
  • Recommends measures to improved production methods, equipment performance and quality of products. Suggests changes in working condition and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists staff in solving problems. Participates on Plant Improvement Teams.
  • Maintains production records and ensures production workers are completed documentation correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Writes issues and maintain Standard Operating Procedures. Interprets company policies to employees when necessary. 
  • In the absence of higher management determine when equipment should be shut down and manages emergency and life threatening situations. Determines course of action.
  • Manages, evaluates and trains staff by coaching, conduction performance reviews, administering discipline, training and development by on the job programs and appropriate off the job programs.
  • Analyzes and recommends manpower requirements, recommends qualifications and individuals for hire. Participates in interviews, corrective action, terminations, performance reviews and wage changes of employees in their department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • BS. degree in Management Science
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment an asset
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong problem solving and judgment skills
  • Mechanical aptitude an asset
  • Previous experience in a food packaging facility is an asset
  • Strong understanding of an ERP (SAP) environemnt, preferred
