The Product Safety Specialist will work with the QA Manager and Department Lead ensuring the Urbana Plant is in compliance with required standards. Responsibilities will be ensuring compliance with Corporate, Plant, Customer and 3rd party standards, all aspects of auditing, reporting, recording and verifying corrective actions have been completed. This position will also be responsible for maintaining electronic and hardcopies of required documentation used to show compliance.  Will assist in ensuring quality standards for product with regard to product attributes which includes, but not limited to packaging, functionality, and appearance as determined by Corporate Specifications.  Will serve as deputy, as defined in the BRC standard, for the QA Manager.

The Product Safety Specialist will be trained to perform routine product inspections, testing and general Quality Assurance (QA) duties as required.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Comply with good manufacturing practices (GMP) as required
  • Comply with Dart Container's policies and procedures
  • Conduct compliance audits in the manufacturing plant on a weekly basis
  • Complete and maintain audit reports
  • Maintain corrective action list and verifying completion of items
  • Ensure training and documentation of training is being carried out on all SOPs
  • Audit compliance to all traceability programs for all raw materials
  • Assist in the completion of Hazard and Risk Analysis exercises
  • Generate reports on product inspections
  • Perform product testing
  • Conduct maintenance of QA records
  • Perform data entry on personal computer (PC)
  • Read and use calipers and measuring tools
  • Use test equipment and gauges
  • Summarize and effectively report test data

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues
  • High School diploma/equivalent and at least three years or more of satisfactory performance as a QA Technician I or a combination of relevant education and quality experience
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Must be detail oriented and have exceptional organizational skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous involvement with BRC, ISO, or other compliance audits
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to work weekends as needed

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years quality experience required, ten (10) years preferred
  • Knowledge of QA computer programs, such as Gainseeker
  • Expert knowledge of Access
  • Ability to perform Test Request assignments independently
